Welcome
to the United States, 04-15-2008 - The Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist join millions of Americans in extending a warm welcome to our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI as he visits the United States. The Community has been praying for his intentions and anticipating his words of hope for our nation. Several Sisters will represent the entire Community at five venues. Sister Clare Hunter, FSE has been invited to the welcoming ceremony on the White House lawn on Wednesday, April 16th, as a representative of the Diocese of Arlington. Mother Shaun Vergauwen, FSE, Mother General, will attend the Holy Mass at Washington Nationals Park on Thursday, April 17th, as an officer of the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious. The Sisters of the Falls Church, Virginia, center also will be present at the Mass. On Saturday, April 19th, Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist from Meriden, Connecticut, will be among those greeting the Holy Father on the steps of St. Patrick Cathedral in New York City. Sister Bernardone Rock, FSE will participate in the Mass for Clergy and Religious at St. Patrick's as a representative from the Diocese of Duluth. On Saturday afternoon, several Sisters in formation will attend the Rally with Seminarians and Young People at St. Joseph Seminary in Yonkers. Sunday, April 20th, Franciscan Sisters and Franciscan Brothers will join over 57,000 others at Yankee Stadium for the Papal Mass. |
