Sister to present on "Resilience" in Sweden

HOUSTON - Sister Damien Marie Savino, FSE, Ph.D. has been invited to present a poster session at the Resilience 2008 conference in Stockholm, Sweden from April 14-17, 2008. The Resilience conference is an international science and policy conference gathering scientists from around the world to share the state of knowledge regarding complex social-ecological systems and how best to manage them in the face of future global environmental challenges. The conference is sponsored by the Resilience Alliance, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the International Council for Science, and others. It is being held at the University of Stockholm and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Sister Damien Marie's abstract, entitled "Striving for Resilience in Urban River Restoration: The Anacostia River Case" was selected to be presented as a poster. Of the 470 abstracts submitted, 170 were selected. Sister Damien Marie's work is a contribution to the conference theme: "Urban Social-Ecological System Challenges." See related story. Sister is an Assistant Professor of Biology and Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas. The University of St. Thomas is providing financial support for Sister's travel and attendance at the conference.
