Four Apprentices make life commitments

POCATELLO, ID (05-14-2007) - The Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist in Pocatello, Idaho, recently welcomed four lay men and women as life-committed members of the Franciscan Apprenticeship Program. In making their commitments, these lay people join over 100 others throughout the Franciscan network in living out a dedication to Franciscan spirituality in their family and professional lives. The ceremony of commitment includes the bestowal of an additional name on the newly-committed Apprentice. The name chosen represents a patron saint for the person.

The four Pocatello Apprentices are (from left in photo) John Camillus Hiller, Mary Anne Hiller, Charlotte Maria Ackerman and Dan Louis Ackerman. The Apprenticeship Program began in the early years of the Franciscan Sisters' community and became formalized in 1978. Apprentices are not canonical members of the order; they are members of the lay faithful who join the Franciscan Sisters and Brothers in carrying out a Franciscan mission in the world.
