Sister Frances Zajac professes perpetual vows

MERIDEN, CT (04-23-2007) - Sister Frances Zajac, FSE professed perpetually the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience during a festive Mass April 22nd at St. Stanislaus Church, Meriden. Sister Frances is the daughter of Mrs. Carol DeSantis and the late Anthony Zajac. Her mother, sisters Leah and Amy, and brother Stephen processed into the church at the beginning of the liturgy to present Sister Frances to Mother Shaun Vergauwen, Mother General.

As a prelude to the liturgy, the Allegrettos, a singing group from Maloney High School, Meriden, performed several selections as did The Canticle Singers of the Franciscan Life Center. Sister Frances is a science teacher at Maloney High School.

In his homily, Very Reverend Douglas Mosey, CSB, emphasized that following a religious call requires trust and a willingness to risk, exemplified in the Gospel account of the apostles fishing all night without success, but responding to the Lord's command to try once again, and they caught 153 large fish, much to their surprise. He explained that the power of the Eucharist is just that - beyond our expectations and our human estimation.

Sister Frances, a graduate of Maloney High School, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-medicine and a Master of Science in Teaching - Secondary Education degree, both from the University of Dayton. She spent three years in the Peace Corps in Cameroon. University and Peace Corps friends attended the ceremony Sunday. She also earned a Fifth Year certificate in Educational Leadership and is qualified as an educational administrator.

The vow ceremony includes questions by the Church as to the intent of the Sister to live the vows for life, and the bestowal of a ring by the priest, signifying the spousal commitment of the Sister to God and to the Church.
