University students spend spring break at Franciscan motherhouse MERIDEN, CT (03-14-2007) - The Meriden community of Franciscan Sisters and Brothers are hosting twenty students and their leaders from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, during spring break 2007. The young men and women are members of the Catholic ministry at the university. During their week with the Franciscans, they are involved in service projects and at the same time they are learning more about consecrated life in community. Some of their projects include painting walls at a newly-re-opened Birthright office, tutoring children at the Boys and Girls Clubs, assisting at the St. Vincent de Paul Shelter in Waterbury, Connecticut, and serving at several soup kitchens as well as visiting elderly persons, and helping with outdoor work projects at the Franciscan center. They are following a schedule of Mass, prayer, work, meals together and meetings to discuss their projects and faith-related issues. See the George Mason University Catholic Ministry information. |
