MERIDEN, CT (09-24-2006) - Sister Marcia Ternes (left) and Sister Naomi Zimmermann (below, right) left early Sunday, September 24th, on a flight to Jamaica, to begin the first mission in the West Indies for the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist. Accompanied by Mother Shaun Vergauwen, Mother General, and Mother Miriam Seiferman, Vicar General, the two Sisters arrived at their new home in Above Rocks to a warm welcome.

The Sisters will collaborate with the Franciscan Friars of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual in ministering to three parishes in the Above Rocks area. Sister Marcia, a licensed medical social worker, was the original foundress of Franciscan Home Care in Meriden, and has served as a social worker for the agency and for the Passionist Community at Holy Family Monastery, West Hartford for the past several years. Sister Naomi is an elementary teacher who has extensive experience with special needs children. She recently returned from the Franciscan Center in the Holy Land where she coordinated activities for traumatized children at Holy Child Program in Bethlehem.
