Community announces plans to open new centers

MERIDEN, CT (04-26-2006) - Mother Shaun Vergauwen, FSE, Mother General, has announced that the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist plan to open two new centers this fall. The centers will be located in Above Rocks, St. Catherine Parish, Jamaica, and Arlington, Virginia. The Sisters who will begin the center in Jamaica will be working in collaboration with a group of Franciscan men from the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. "This new venture will be a stretch for the community and will invigorate our commitment to mission," Mother Shaun commented.

The upcoming effort in the Diocese of Arlington is in response to an invitation of Bishop Paul S. Loverde who has requested the presence of the Franciscan Sisters for several years. The Sisters will be engaged in diocesan-wide apostolates. Pictured at left is Bishop Loverde with Mother Shaun Vergauwen (left) and former Mother General, Mother Rosemae Pender.

Plans will be solidified in the coming months and the two new centers will open in late summer or early fall.
