Mary Sullivan Enters Novitiate

MERIDEN, CT (10-03-2004) - Mary Sullivan, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, was received into the novitiate of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist on Sunday, October 3rd, in a private ceremony in St. John Chapel, Paul IV Center. She was given the name Sister John Mary in memory of her brother, John Jeremiah Sullivan, who died in a car accident at age 11, and for her devotion to St. John, who comforted the Blessed Mother, at the foot of the cross.

Sister John Mary received her B.A. degree in Theology at the University of Dallas and her Masters of Theological Studies from the John Paul Institute on Marriage and Family Studies at The Catholic University of America. Before entering the community, she taught Theology, History and Literature to students in grades 6 - 12. She is the daughter of Robert and Darlene Sullivan of Phoenix.

Upon entering the novitiate phase of formation in religious life, Mary, now Sister John Mary, received the habit and veil of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist. She begins a more intense time of study and prayerful reflection on Franciscan spirituality and the meaning of the three vows she will eventually embrace: chastity, poverty and obedience.
