Renee Garcia Enters Novitiate

MERIDEN, CT (Sept. 28, 2003) Renee Garcia, formerly of the Maryland-Washington, D.C. area and Texas, was received into the novitiate of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist by Mother Rosemae Pender, Mother General, at a private ceremony in St. John Chapel, Paul VI Center.

Miss Garcia received the habit of the Franciscan Sisters, along with a new name. She will be known as Sister Maria Serra. The name refers to Blessed Junipero Serra, a Spanish Franciscan missionary who zealously worked in Mexico and California from 1750 to 1784.

Sister Maria Serra is the daughter of David and Teresa Garcia of Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico.
