"Prayer and Penance" Theme of Lenten Series

The CLARE Institute of the Franciscan Life Center offered a six week Lenten series on Prayer and Penance to help persons prepare for Holy Week and Easter. The series featured six speakers who presented the practices of prayer and penance in various religions and spiritualities.

The program included the following speakers and topics:

Dominican/Medieval Tradition: Reverend Peter Girard, O.P., Ph.D., Holy Apostles College and Seminary, Cromwell, Connecticut

Islam: Ali A. Antar, Ph.D., Central Connecticut State University, New Britain, Connecticut

Pentecostal Tradition: Bishop Richard Gatling, Jackson Memorial Church of God in Christ International, Hartford, Connecticut

New Age: Reverend Thomas F.X. Hoar, S.E.E., Saint Edmund's Retreat, Enders Island, Connecticut

Judaism: Madelyn Lankton
