Shaw Chorale and Island Sinfonia Present Lessons and Carols

December 6, 2002. Shaw Island, Washington

The Shaw Chorale and Island Sinfonia presented a program of Lessons and Carols on Shaw Island, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. This year there are 20 singers and 24 musicians in the chamber orchestra. In addition to the Lessons and Carols, the Sinfonia performed O Holy Night with trumpet solo, Brahms Variation on a Christmas Carol (the familiar tune "Christ Was Born on Christmas Day"), the Capriol Suite by Peter Warlock, closing with selections from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. The musicians represent five islands (San Juan, Orcas, Lopez, Crane and Shaw) and most of the players travel via ferry to San Pietro Music Studio for a two hour rehearsal on Saturdays. Sister Kateri Visocky, FSE, directs the group. Sister Kateri received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Viterbo College, La Crosse, Wisconsin, and a Master's degree in Music Education from Willamette University.

The chamber music group and chorale have been playing for over 20 years. This year the Sinfonia group will close the Christmas season with a concert at the Orcas Center, Orcas Island on January 5, 2003. The performance will include Handel's Water Music.

Shaw Chorale and Island Sinfonia players arrive on Shaw for rehearsal at San Pietro Music Studio.
