Sister Margaret Boehm, FSE |
Sister's bread brings top price at auction March 15, 2002. Bridal Veil, Oregon Sister Margaret Boehm, FSE was more surprised than anyone when two bidders each bid $1,500 for 12 loaves of her bread and 12 dozen fresh eggs. The crowd of over 300 supporters attending an annual fund raising auction held recently at the Airport Embassy Suites, Portland, Oregon, to benefit the Franciscan Montessori Earth School, cheered loudly as two bidders agreed to pay $1,500 each in return for a loaf of Sister Margaret's bread once a month for a year. Sister Margaret said she never dreamed that 24 loaves of bread and a few dozen eggs could bring $3,000 for the school. Sister Margaret's expertise in food preparation and presentation is no secret to those who know her or have worked with her. She has served as Director of Food Service in hospitals and long term care facilities. For years she and Sister Mary Michael Costello operated Franciscan Villa, providing luncheons and hospitality for group meetings at the Franciscan Bridal Veil Center. Sister Margaret was instrumental in the publication of the Community's cookbook, Franciscan Heritage Foods. The first "golden" loaves will be delivered this week to the winners. |
