April Conference: Mapping the Catholic Cultural Landscape

The Catholic Studies Program of the University of St. Thomas, Houston, is sponsoring an international conference, Mapping the Catholic Cultural Landscape. Sister Paula Jean Miller, FSE, Director of the Catholic Studies Program, says that the focus of the conference is on the Catholic impact on culture and cultural impacts on Catholicism.

Each day the liturgy will be in the language and customs of a particular culture -- Spanish, Vietnamese, Ibo (Nigerian) and French. Plenary session luncheons will also be a sharing of Spanish foods and Vietnamese foods. Plenary session speakers are Bishop Ricardo Ramirez of the Diocese of Las Cruces who will speak on "The Two Way Bridge between Catholicism and Hispanic Culture" and Dr. Elizabeth Fox Genovese, who will speak on "What Can We Hope to Accomplish? Liberal Education, Evangelization and the Prospects for a Living Culture."
