Franciscan Sisters Celebrate O Antiphons

December 23, 2001. Meriden, Connecticut

Following upon the Holy Father's call for prayer for world peace, the motherhouse community of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist celebrated the "O Antiphon Days" of Advent from December 17-23 by reflecting each day on a phrase of St. Francis' Prayer of Peace in relation to the O Antiphon of the day. The Sisters also prayed specially for a country or area of the world in need of peace. Prior to Mass each day, Sisters presented reflections on the O Antiphon, a phrase of the prayer and a troubled place in the world.

O Wisdom. "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace."
O Sacred Lord of Ancient Israel. "Where there is doubt, faith."
O Root of Jesse. "Where there is despair, hope."
O Key of David. "Where there is hatred, let me sow love."
O Radiant Dawn. "Where there is darkness, light."
O King of All Nations. "Where there is injury, pardon."
O Emmanuel. "Where there is sadness, joy."
