Sisters Mark 25th Anniversary of Service on Shaw Island

September 1, 2001. Shaw Island, WA

The Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist mark the 25th anniversary of their service on Shaw Island, Washington, on September 1st. The Sisters operate the island's only general store located at the ferry dock where they also serve as ferry agents for the Washington State Ferries. Named for the Portiuncula, the first wayside chapel that St. Francis repaired in his youth, the store is known as Little Portion Store. The Sisters strive through their service to meet the many individual needs of customers. They will commemorate the 25th anniversary in the same way -- serving their customers.

A Mass of thanksgiving will be held in the Mother Kerper Chapel at the ferry dock on Sunday, September 2nd. The chapel is named for Mother Ann Marie Kerper, FSE, the first superior and one of the foundresses of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist center on Shaw Island.
