Pro-Life Ministry Alert

July 2001. Meriden, CT

The Pro-Life Ministry of the Archdiocese of Hartford at the Franciscan Life Center urges voters to make known their pro-life stand to President Bush and members of Congress as our government leaders deliberate the critical issues of stem cell research and unborn victims of violence.

ALERT 1.

Urgent: Join a petition to President Bush Opposing Destructive Human Embryo Research

Go to http://www.stemcellresearch.org/petition and sign the petition urging President Bush's opposition to this research.

"I do not want my tax dollars used for research that destroys some human lives for the sake of others. Please revoke the National Institute of Health guidelines that encourage killing of human embryos for their stem cells. Instead, please support increased funding for adult stem cell research and other morally acceptable alternatives."

ALERT 2.

Contact your U.S. Representative today: Responsible Stem Cell Research Act

Support Congressman Chris Smith's legislation introduced June 7, 2001, entitled "Responsible Stem Cell Research Act of 2001" (H.R.2096). This bill expands federal funding of research on stem cells obtained from adults and from umbilical cords -- without harming human embryos. This is NOT to be confused with Congressman Jim McDermott's bill, H.R. 2059 which authorizes the killing of human embryos for the purpose of stem cell research.

ALERT 3.

Contact your U.S. Senators today: Unborn Victims of Violence Act

Ask your senators to support the Unborn Victims of Violence Act (H.R. 503) that was passed by the House of Representatives. This bill makes it a separate crime to harm or kill an unborn child during the commission of certain federal crimes.
