Children's Summer Program in Full Swing

July 11, 2001. Meriden, CT

The Franciscan Life Center's Summer Enrichment Program for children is in its second week with happy campers enjoying the fun of outdoor activities at the Franciscan motherhouse. Each week a new group of 60 children ages 6-12 come to learn, play and take part in land-based activities. The Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist lead each group's activities and plan a variety of experiences around a central theme for the week.

The massive copper beech tree is a favorite spot. Each group reserves a time to spend in the tree to avoid overcrowding due to high demand.

Children enjoy the goats and chickens and learn how to care for them. Sister Maria Sena, FSE, Director of Franciscan Pottery, is teaching the basics of pottery. All eyes light up at the amazing results of raku firing.
