Franciscan Leaders Meet Together in Europe April 22, 2001. Meriden, Connecticut. Mother Rosemae Pender, FSE, Mother General and Mother Shaun Vergauwen, FSE, Vicar General are joining the leadership teams of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, La Crosse, Wisconsin, and the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis, Wisconsin for three weeks of Franciscan-related meetings focused on collaboration. The first days the leaders will travel to Ettenbeuren, Germany, to renew their common relationship with the parishoners of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish. This parish sent a group of Franciscan tertiaries to Wisconsin in 1849 and it was from this original group that the three orders share a common origin. The Sisters will then travel to Brixen, Italy, where they will meet with the Superior General and motherhouse community of the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis. The three United States orders are collaborating in a common venture of "companioning" with the Tertiary Sisters. The leaders will prepare a presentation for the International Franciscan Conference in Assisi the next week. Following the International Franciscan Conference, Mother Rosemae Pender, FSE will join Sister Marla Lang, FSPA, Sister Marcia Lunz, OSFand Mother Felix Marie, TSSF at the conference of the Union of International Superiors General in Rome, a gathering that represents 1,000 religious communities throughout the world. |
