"Members of One Body" Conference Draws Enthusiastic Crowd

Cheshire, CT.  July 2, 2000.

Over 120 people enthusiastically participated in a weekend conference sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist at the Chiara Center, Cheshire, CT,  June 30 - July 2, 2000. The event focused on Sister Paula Jean Miller’s recent book, Members of One Body. Participants, comprising priests, religious, and lay faithful, had joined in discussion groups for one year in preparation. Sister Paula Jean presented key concepts from the book and led discussions on how the “three paths to holiness” – priesthood, consecrated life, and lay faithful – can interrelate, collaborate and support each other’s vocation and mission as members of the One Body of Christ.

Attendees came from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Minnesota, Texas, Michigan, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, Saskatchewan, the Holy Land, Assisi and Rome, Italy. The common thread among the diverse group is a commitment to the teachings of the Church and to apply these teachings creatively and effectively in their lives.

Sister Paula Jean Miller is the Director of the Catholic Studies Program and an Associate Professor of Theology at the University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas.
