The
Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist were founded on December 2, 1973.
Mother Rosemae Pender, Foundress (left), and Mother Shaun
Vergauwen, Co-Foundress (lower right), along with 53 other
Sisters of the Franciscan
Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, La Crosse, Wisconsin, became the
first Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist.
Mother
Rosemae had held leadership positions in the former order,
having been a teacher,
a principal, a college professor, the director
of postulants, the director of Junior Sisters
and a member of the General Council. Mother Rosemae served as the
Mother General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist since
its founding until 2005.
Mother
Shaun had been a teacher in Wisconsin and Iowa schools,
and the Dean of Students at Viterbo College in La Crosse. She
had also ministered in a social work program in Appalachia. Mother
Shaun served as the Vicar General of the Franciscan Sisters of the
Eucharist since its founding until she was elected Mother General
in 2005. A licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, she is the
foundress and executive
director
of the Franciscan Life Center, Meriden, Connecticut, and the
Franciscan
Life Center Network.
